WTO head addresses Bali forum
The Secretary-General of the World
Tourism Organization, Francesco Frangialli, has told the UN Climate
Change Conference currently convened in Bali that the sector can become
a force for good in the fight against global warming.
Frangialli
said that in the past year the tourism sector had begun to unite in its
support of the UN Secretary-General's roadmap for a more climate
responsible world. He continued, Tourism will not shrink from its
responsibilities to respond through adaptation and mitigation, as well
as by technology and financing for poor countries. We are part of the
problem and will be part of the solution.
The results of
scientific analysis suggest that tourism is estimated to contribute
some five per cent of CO2 - a percentile far below its contribution to
the economies of developing countries.
